Led by Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga, this introductory in-person workshop is for people of Asian descent to learn about Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the connection to anti-Asian racism in Aotearoa.
Come and learn in a safe space. Run over a full day, this workshop will cover:
The history and context to the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in 1840
He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni, the 1835 Declaration of Independence
The different understandings of the meaning of Te Tiriti o Waitangi held by Māori and the British at the time of signing
What happened after the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
The history of migration of tauiwi (non-Māori) to Aotearoa and the impact of racism on these communities
What rights and responsibilities we have, as tauiwi (non-Māori) living in Aotearoa
This free workshop will be held in Balmoral on Saturday 2 July, from 9am-4pm.
Lunch will be provided.
Please note, everybody will be expected to take a RAT before entering the space to ensure the health and safety of those attending.
